If you are someone who wants to write mystery novels and you’re using AI then CaseBound Review looks at a writing tool that you can use in your browser. This tool helps you create a mystery story step by step starting from the first idea all the way to a full manuscript. CaseBound starts with the case, which means you first create the person who did the crime why they did it the people involved the clues, things that mislead and the timeline.
Then you make a story bible, an outline for each chapter and the actual chapters. You need your own Claude account to use it. There are three versions of the tool: Author for $27 Author for $97 and Master Author for $147.

What Is CaseBound? A Complete Product Overview
CaseBound is a mystery-writing studio that works in your web browser. The website says it runs in your browser stores everything in your browser and uses your own Claude account for writing. There are no credits, no subscription and no charge per book. It was created by Kevin Berry, a writer from New Zealand, who claims he used it to write and publish six mysteries. Those mysteries include one historical mystery and five cozy stories, across two series.
The main idea is a process, not a button. You pick a subgenre and a premise then build the case. You check it make a story bible. Create a chapter outline. After that you write the chapters based on everything you’ve done. The website says you stay in control. You can change things at every step bring your scenario upload your own story bible or say no to a chapter.
How Does CaseBound Work? Features and Workflow Explained
There are three phases, in this process. The first phase is to choose a story. You pick a subgenre. Then you can either look at suggested scenarios or write your own. If you are writing a mystery you begin by collecting a period dossier to set the scene. The second phase is to build the case. You decide on the culprit, motive, timeline, suspects, clues and red herrings. A twelve‑check Mystery Audit will find spots. After that the tool will produce a story bible and a chapter outline. The third phase is to write the chapters.
You draft chapters following the case file, the bible and the outline. You read them give feedback and keep working until you finish the manuscript. Two design choices stand out. First the audit demands at three credible suspects. It also checks alibis timing, fair play and whether the solution shows up too early. Second the tool keeps the approved case, cast and outline moving forward with rules that keep everything in sync. The naming tools reject AI‑generated names and you can add more names to the banned list. I did not run the tool. These are the vendors descriptions.
CaseBound Review: What the Example Case File Reveals
The sales page links a worked example and that worked example is the evidence available for what the planning stage produces. I read all of it. This is a case file for a cozy mystery set in a small-town library. The case file has 24 sections beginning with the scenario and the central mystery question and ending with the hidden truth the culprit, motive and method. The case file also contains five cards each card showing motive, access, secret lie, an incriminating fact and an exonerating fact. The case file shows a timeline and an apparent timeline.
The case file lists five clues, seven corroborating clues and four red herrings, each red herring showing what clears it. The case file also has a knowledge map, a theory and what breaks that theory a midpoint shift, an “85% point” analysis, an escalation plan, a proof strategy the reveal format, the aftermath and a series thread. This case file is detailed, structured and built around play: each red herring has a clear innocent explanation and a moment when it is cleared.
It is also a reminder that a plan needs human checking. Reading closely I noticed slips in the showcase itself. One section says the key library card is found at the 80% mark while the “85% point” section says the card has not yet surfaced at 85%. Another section says the sleuth goes to the card arriving at 84% after the card is already found. A suspect also sees a police car at 11:04, a minute before the emergency call, at 11:05. These may be draft leftovers and the file is an example, not a novel.. It shows why the page’s own advice, to review every stage, matters and that the audit does not replace the reading.
CaseBound Review: Comparing the Three Editions
All three versions have the novel engine: the step-by-step method, the twelve-check review the blueprint database, the restricted name filter, a writing sprint feature with data, rewards and trophies an ebook creation tool, thirteen writing languages (including British and American English) manuscript length options from 5,000 to 125,000 words, a name creation tool, complete user guides, a 30-day promise and the initial offers. Author ($27) includes two types of stories, cozy and historical mystery with 12 provided time-related files of around 20,000 words each.
Pro Author ($97 marked as suggested) brings in eight types of stories (paranormal cozy, traditional amateur detective, police investigation, private investigator and tough style, crime darkness, Nordic darkness, legal mystery and medical mystery) 28 more time-related files for a total of 40 a personalized file maker called The Morgue and Voiceworks: 53 mystery-specific writing styles and a personalized style made from your writing or description.
Master Author ($147) adds Fieldwork Line Edit (removes AI phrases and uses 40 line-editing rules) Fieldwork Continuity (checks events against the planned schedule and suggests fixes) Trim Reaper (formatting for paperback with a space between pages) and Reader Reach book marketing strategies. The math works: two plus eight types of stories is ten and 12 plus 28 files is 40. The useful advice is straightforward. Author is enough if you want an historical cozy. Pro is for types of stories and a unique voice. Master is, for the tools after you finish the draft.

CaseBound Review: Examining the Promised Results
The vendor shows KDP report screenshots for the books. For the mystery A Murder in Tanners Lane, which was published on 23 September 2026 the KDP report page shows 42 units, with 39 digital units and 3 print units. It also shows 4,168 Kindle Edition Normalized Pages read and $135.88 in estimated royalties. For the six selected books the KDP report page shows 148 units, with 142 digital units and 6 print units 8,840 pages read and $308.10 in estimated royalties. That total includes the book and is not an addition to it.
Those numbers are modest. The KDP report page says the same. It calls the numbers not typical results and not an earnings promise. That is good claim discipline. The unit counts add up. The vendor did not let me see the screenshots or confirm the sales. So the numbers stay vendor‑hosted.
I found the Amazon listing for the mystery book when I searched. The description on Amazon matches the sample on the KDP report page: Bermondsey, 1889 an apothecary found dead in a room bolted from the inside Inspector Dunne and Maud McLellan. That shows the book exists. Amazon lists the author, as Suzanne Pallister, not Kevin Berry. The JV page says Kevin writes under his name and a pen name so that fits, but neither page lists the pen name. I did not check the five titles individually.
CaseBound Review: License, Usage Rights, and Restrictions
The terms are clear. Match the sales page. When you buy you receive a non‑exclusive non‑transferable license that lets you use the product for your own writing. You cannot resell, share, copy or give away the product, its documentation or its supplied reference files or let others use your access. You own everything you create with the product. The vendor does not claim any royalty, revenue share or ownership. Extra rights, such as agency or ghostwriting rights are only available with the upgrade that includes them.
The sales page says that you can use a pen name and sell the book and that statement matches the terms. The practical consequence is that writing books for paying clients requires the Ghostwriting Agency License ($57) because the base license is, for your writing. Reader Reach offers a PLR version, which is described below.
CaseBound Review: Bonuses and Extra Resources
Two launch bonuses come with every edition. Bonus 1 is a market analysis of mysteries set in 1920s Scotland. That one is valued at $37. Bonus 2 is a 25,000-word dossier on 1924 Edinburgh. You load it into CaseBound. It’s worth $27. The total of $64 is correct. These values are, from the vendor themselves. Both bonuses are very specific. So they help most if you’re planning to write a mystery set in 1920s Scotland.
Guarantee and Refund Policy
The sales page says there is a 30-day money-back guarantee “no questions asked,”. Also says that a refund ends your license. The vendors Refund Policy page states that refund requests must be sent by email within 30 days of purchase and it applies to all products and services in the CaseBound range, which includes the Evaluation Service. The two documents agree on the 30 days. The “no questions asked” phrase is on the sales page.
In practice keep your order details make any request by email during the time window and decide quickly because the guarantee is, for testing an idea and not for something that lasts a long time.
Who Created CaseBound? Vendor Background Check
The vendor is Kevin Berry from Christchurch, New Zealand. His terms are covered by New Zealand law. On his author pages he lists a bibliography that includes crime fiction, science fiction and interactive middle-grade books. He’s also won a shared Sir Julius Vogel Award, two Awesome Indies Seal awards. Reached Amazon CA #1 in noir mysteries. His pages say he’s sold than 3,800 books with 1.2 million Kindle pages read. He also mentions a background in software development. Proofreading 8.5 million words for other authors.
These numbers come from Kevin Berry himself. The JV page says these are his results and not just from CaseBound. The JV launch manager is Paula-Maree Roberts. I couldn’t find a WarriorPlus vendor profile for her. There’s no sales count or refund history listed. So her record as a WarriorPlus vendor hasn’t been confirmed.. Her record, as an author is real and can be seen on her own pages.

HOW TO TEST IT
The 30-day guarantee makes it sensible to test the system. Start with a premise that matters to you. Go through the case-building stage and the Mystery Audit. Then read the result carefully. Compare it to what the example case file shows. Are the clues actually findable? Are the red herrings cleared properly? Is the timeline consistent? Then write a chapters and see if the voice stays strong if the pacing works and if the continuity holds. Check how far your Claude plan gets you before usage limits start to get in the way.
Decide within the 30 days. If the process doesn’t work for you request a refund by email. Whatever the CaseBound Review concludes, testing it on your idea will teach you more, than any number of pages ever could.
CASEBOUND REVIEW: WHAT I LIKED
A clear, specific process built around planning the solution first.
A worked case file that shows what the planning stage actually produces.
Modest, honestly labeled results, with the vendor saying they are not typical.
A funnel that matches the JV page on every point I could check.
A clear license, with ownership of your own content and a plain note about KDP’s AI questions.
A real author behind it, with a publicly listed bibliography.
One-time pricing, a 30-day guarantee and an entry price of $27.
PRICING: WHAT FITS YOUR BUDGET
Author at twenty-seven dollars is the starting point if you want a classic or historical cozy and it carries the complete engine. Move to Pro only if you want subgenres custom dossiers or voice tools and compare Author plus Max with Pro before choosing. Master makes sense if you want the line edit, continuity and paperback tools in one purchase. Reader Reach suits authors who need a promotion plan. The Agency License only matters if you will write for clients and the Evaluation Service is for authors who want feedback. Budget separately, for Claude editing, a cover and publishing costs.
WHO SHOULD CONSIDER THIS PRODUCT
Aspiring and self-published authors who want a structured way to plan and draft a mystery.
Cozy and historical mystery writers who like research dossiers and a plotting framework.
KDP publishers who will edit the draft, answer Amazon’s AI questions honestly and handle their own cover and promotion.
Ghostwriters, once they have read the Agency License terms.
VALUE AND ROI LOGIC
The grounded way to weigh this is as a $27 planning and drafting tool with a 30-day guarantee. If it helps you plan and draft one mystery you would not otherwise have finished, that is worth far more than $27 to most authors, even before any sales. The pages show modest results from the vendor’s own books, and sales depend on your story, cover, listing and promotion.
Risk is low in money terms, given the guarantee. The uncertainty is about Claude limits, editing effort and how much of the upgrade stack you will need. Start with Author, test it on your own idea, and add anything else only if you find yourself missing it.
